I first encountered the work of Oliver Sacks, MD, BC-Neurologist, in the early 2000’s as the “www” was beginning to develop. By this time, Mother and I had been finding great joy singing together daily at the piano for a number of years – beginning in late 1998.
He was the first neurologist to “speak to me” via his online posts about his experience integrating music into his neurology practice based in New York. I felt like I was encountering an old friend.
His description of the brain: “The most incredible thing in the universe.”
His work lives on through those his life impacted – and through a beautiful website – which “The Sacks Team” maintains posthumously.
In this 2008 recording – 3.44 minutes – he discusses “Alzheimers and The Power of Music” – its effect on memory, emotion, and mood.
