It was 2001, the first year we were together for Halloween at the ranch, one of our care partners helped Mother wrap assorted candy that day for the stops we would be making in the evening.
We left at 4:30 for an early meal at the Pizza Hut before putting on our wigs and sun glasses – and stopping at the homes of Mother’s siblings – a total of four stops.
We were recognized at every stop! How and why would they possibly have known us?!
We had performed a family music skit with two other family members joining our skit for Mother’s annual family reunion during the month of October.
Several weeks following the reunion, as we were looking at photos of the reunion skit, Mother had commented that she had never had so much fun performing together! She had a solo part which she had carried off with aplomb, poise, and self-assurance.
So now, our encore evening would be wearing the wigs again for Halloween – for her siblings and some of my cousins.
From the point of leaving the Pizza Hut until we arrived back at the ranch – four stops later, Mother and I had giggled the entire time.
And Dad…? He was humored and having fun too, but, as usual, someone had to maintain decorum when out-numbered by female giggles!
In the years that followed, preparing the table for holiday parties required only a few days of planning ahead. Amazon was a good friend.
While setting the stage – and the holiday table – turning on some good Halloween music helped to get us in the holiday spirit.
This music found recently on YouTube is just lovely! It includes relaxing sounds of nature and features flute music, piano music, harp music, & violin music. You will enjoy it!
