From the first to the last Chicago high-rise which I called home, no matter how small, I always found a space for a home office.
Setting up and maintaining a second office to be close to aging parents would not be an impossible challenge. The goal was to pursue the best quality of care for my parents – both diagnosed with dementia – and to be together for as long as we could all manage together.
It was not until more recent years that I noted with some delight that Martha Stewart began to include closets-converted-to-home-offices in her publications.
Could remote work become the norm?
And now, during COVID-19, many people are carving out work spaces in their homes. According to , Assistant Professor of Organizational Behaviour, Bond Business School, Bond University, “With no end in sight to COVID-19, many businesses are developing or implementing work-from-home policies to ensure business continuity. If employees and employers can get the balance right and enjoy the benefits of well-planned telework, this coronavirus outbreak could prove to be the tipping point for remote work arrangements to become the norm.”
Be Inspired
Check this article in Houzz.com for ideas for converting a closet to an office. As the author states, one of the best things about turning a closet into an office is that “when you don’t feel like thinking about work, you can just shut your doors and conceal it from view.”
And – at this period of transition during COVID-19, it may be time to evaluate whether you need everything that has collected in that closet. Is this the moment to proceed with some spring cleaning?
